It was a cold and windy day on January 2nd, 2011. Julie and I had decided to drive over to Fairhope, AL to do a photo walk around the downtown area. As we were driving over, we noticed a very interesting cloud formation in the sky that was just calling for our attention.
We drove through town and went straight to the beach area just north of the Fairhope Pier on Mobile Bay. Did I mention how cold and windy it was? It was brutal, however we braved the elements and gathered our photography equipment and hit the beach.
Julie had a fan base gathering around. This bird was having trouble flying so it decided to stick around and crept closer and closer to Julie, trying to figure out what she was doing.
In this next image, you can see the cloud formation that caught our attention. It looked like a giant bird flying toward the setting sun. This cloud formation caught the attention of a lot of people that day, as I saw numerous images posted on Facebook. People were stopping on the side of the highways and capturing images of it. It was truely an amazing sight to see.
As time went on, it was as if the bird flew into the sun, igniting the sky. The flames were boiling and rolling over Fairhope Pier.
The flames rolled across the sky until the sun dipped into the water, slowly extinquishing the fire.
